Professional Custom Orthotics in Canberra: Manage Foot Discomfort and Postural Issues

Custom orthotics (foot orthoses) are specially designed shoe inserts that provide support and comfort for your feet and can help with alignment and postural issues. People who have chronic foot or leg problems that interfere with the health and functioning of their feet may be prescribed orthotics by their podiatrist. There are many different types of orthotics, and they will vary in materials and features based on where you get yours.

At CBR Podiatry, we are specialists in custom orthotics and work with patients Canberra-wide. We will guide you through the process, giving you a thorough understanding of how to get the greatest benefit from your orthotics.

What Types of Custom Orthotics Do CBR Podiatry Provide?

There are many different types of foot orthotics, including custom-moulded, heat-moulded and off-the-shelf prefabricated orthotics. Our highly skilled principal podiatrist, Nick Cotton, will outline the benefits of each and help you decide which one is best for you.

We offer a range of custom orthotics starting from $440. Discounts are available on your second set of orthotics. Having a second set can help extend the lifespan of your orthotics, allowing you to maximise their usage and value. Orthotics available in the CBR Podiatry clinic in O’Connor, Canberra, include:

Custom Moulded Orthotics (bespoke)

Custom moulded foot orthotics are made to a digital scan of your foot. This modern way of scanning the foot removes the problems associated with old-fashioned plaster casts. For example, our experienced podiatrist can take several video scans in a relatively short time and select the best one to make your foot orthotic from.

The orthotic shape will be a perfect match for your foot but can be modified to manage a wide range of symptoms (not only those listed above). Custom moulded orthotics are often recommended for problems which require maximum support or correction. This type of orthotic can provide good value as it can last many years.

Heat Moulded Orthotics

Heat moulded orthotics are heat shaped to match your foot type and provide maximum comfort. Our specialist orthotics podiatrist can also modify them to offer an effective solution to your foot or lower limb problem.

This type of orthotic is made of a softer plastic than the custom-moulded option but can still provide comfort and symptom relief for up to 3 years before it may need to be renewed.

How to Get the Best Result from Your Custom Orthotics

Wearing in your Foot Orthotics

Foot orthotics need to be worn in gradually. You’ll receive additional information and instructions on this at your fitting appointment.

Maintaining your foot orthotics

  • Don’t let your pets get to them (dogs love to chew on foot orthotics!)
  • Don’t leave them in a hot car
  • Don’t submerge them in water
  • Don’t clean them with chemicals
  • Do clean your orthotics with a damp cloth
  • Remove any grit or dirt from the inside of your shoes regularly
  • Monitor for wearing of the top cover (our podiatrist can generally replace the top cover on your orthotic if it is damaged, as the shell of the orthotic usually remains in good condition for many years)
  • See your podiatrist annually to get your orthotics reviewed
