Heel Pain
Specialised Heel Pain Treatment Canberra - Belconnen, Dickson and Canberra-wide
Heel pain is a frustrating condition that can limit mobility and interfere with daily activities. At CBR Podiatry in North Canberra, we assess the cause of your discomfort and offer customised heel pain treatment that gets to the root of the problem. You may feel pain or discomfort in the heel area, radiating to other parts of the foot or leg. Or experience heel pain first thing in the morning with the first few steps of the day or after a period of sitting. Sometimes, the pain may reduce after walking for a while, but it often returns. Whatever the cause, we’ll help alleviate your heel pain and achieve your foot health goals.
What are the Causes of Heel Pain?
A common cause of heel pain is plantar fasciitis, also referred to as plantar fasciopathy. This condition is characterised by damage to the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot. Plantar fasciopathy/plantar fasciitis can be caused by overuse, improper footwear, or abnormalities in foot structure, function and alignment.
Another prevalent source of heel pain is Achilles tendinopathy/tendonitis, which can involve pain and inflammation of the Achilles tendon. This is a very important tendon connecting the calf muscles to the heel bone. This condition is typically caused by overuse or repetitive stress on the tendon, which can lead to small tears and damage.
There are many potential causes of heel pain, including, but not limited to:
- Plantar fasciitis
- Achilles tendinopathy/tendonitis
- Heel/bone spurs
- Stress fracture/s
- Arthritis
- Severs disease, more accurately known as calcaneal apophysitis
- Nerve compression
- Bursitis
